Indoor Fun at the Young at Art Museum

If you have little ones in tow, the Young at Art Museum, located less than 20 minutes from our hotel, is a great place to spend an exceptionally hot day. The 55,000-square-foot facility boasts a variety of hands-on exhibits to get kids up to about age 10 engaged in art and allow them to climb, slide, jump, run, and roll. Currently, featured exhibits include Saturday Morning Cartoons: The Story of King Kapow! Through September 23, this exhibit lets kids “enter a magical cartoon world” to help Dingle Dangle, a lost cartoon bat, find his way back home. Through January 6, you’ll also be able to experience the interactive art exhibit Sew Organ, in which antique sewing machines are joined to various “shellacked wooden acoustic forms” such as vintage radios and cellos. Children are invited to play with this zany network of interconnected objects to produce bizarre and enchanting sonic effects. And that’s just a very tiny sample of what’s in store at the innovative Young at Art Museum.
