After Sunset, the Arts Come Alive

While you’re in South Florida this summer, you’ll likely spend a lot of your daylight hours having adventures on the beaches and in the gardens. If you’re looking for something to do after the sun has set, consider stopping into a show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This center is located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, which means it’s an easy journey from Sunrise and the Sawgrass Grand.

Known as a cultural hub for the region, the Broward Center hosts enough programming that you can find something to suit your personal tastes and the needs of your family. Over the summer, they’ll perform classic plays (such as Fiddler on the Roof), serve as the venue for music (including the Go-Gos in their farewell tour and the Symphony of the Americas), and put on kid-friendly productions (such as 101 Dalmatians).

Attending a show will help you cool down while enjoying the arts, and you’ll be at the Center that has been an important part of revitalizing the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District. While you’re in the District, you’ll also have the opportunity to eat dinner before a show, or grab a drink afterwards. The Broward Center even maintains partnerships with nearby restaurants and bars, so you can get a discount.

For great food and an opportunity for a discount, consider eating at 15th Street Fisheries, and enjoy local seafood while looking over the water from the marina. They’ve annually won awards for Best Seafood Restaurant and Best Waterfront Restaurant, so if you want seafood during your stay, they’re worth a try. For a discount on a drink, stop into Public House, which boasts a menu of over 100 bears, 40 of them crafts on draft.

When the show is over and you’ve enjoyed a drink, it’s an easy return to the Sawgrass Grand, where you can rest up to prepare for another day in Southern Florida.
